Biography
He changed his surname from Griffith to Griffith-Colpoys in 1821.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 15/04/1783). He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 21/05/1794). He was appointed as a Rear Admiral of the Blue (With seniority dated 12/08/1812). He was appointed as the Senior Officer Halifax in 1813. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 04/06/1814). He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief North America Station 1815. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the Red RN (With seniority dated 12/08/1819). He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of HM Ships and Vessels in the River St. Lawrence along the coast of Nova Scotia, the Islands of Anticosti, Madelaine, St. John and HMCS Cape Breton, the Bay of Fundy and at and about Bermuda (or Somers' Islands), the Bahama Islands, and the Gulf of Mexico to the Tropic of Cancer 1815. He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief North America and Lakes of Canada Station in 1819. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 27/05/1825). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the Blue RN (With seniority dated 27/05/1825). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the Red RN (With seniority dated 22/07/1830). He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief North America and Newfoundland Station (Flag carried in H.M.S. Winchester) in 1830.
