He served in 19th Reserve Battalion, CEF. To No.1 School of Aeronautics, 25/06/1917. He served in #26 Training Squadron 31/07/1917. He served in #73 Squadron 06/09/1917. He served in #7 Brigade in Italy 19/01/1918. He served in #28 Squadron 23/01/1918 - 29/10/1918. He was wounded and was invalided to England, 24/11/1918. He was awarded the Distiguished Flying Cross "This officer at all times displays the highest skill and courage, setting a fine example to other pilots. He has accounted for five enemy machines, and during the rcecent operations, has led four successful bombing patrols at low altitudes." |

After serving with the the 19th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Hallonquist transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in 1917. He was posted to 28 Squadron in January 1918, he was credited with five victories while serving in Italy as a Sopwith Camel pilot. On 29/10/1918, he was captured when his aircraft was shot down by anti-aircraft fire. |
