He was living in Hull QC at the time of his recruitment. He taught at at Rothesay School and then at Saint John High School.

He was appointed as an Officer Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1963. In 1963 he served in HMCS Carleton for UNTD. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 15/09/1964). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (NR) (With seniority dated 15/09/1965). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (NR). He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (NR). He was appointed as a Commander (NR). He served in HMCS Brunswicker as Commanding Officer 1979-1982. (He was released.)
