Biography
In 1948 he graduated from the U of T with an MA in history. In 1948-1951 he served in Royal Roads (Canadian Services College). He taught at the National Defence College (Kingston ON). He taught at the Graduate School of Journalism of the University of Western Ontario. He was a journalist and author of maritime heritage works. He was the founder of the Canadian Institute of Strategic Studies. In 1966-1971 he was the Associate Editor of the Toronto Telegram and Foreign Affairs Analyst of Thompson Newspapers 1972-1990. He was Canadian Columnist for the Miami Herald 1972-1999.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RCN. He served in the Royal Roads. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN. He was appointed as an Instructor Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 15/01/1949). He was appointed as an Instructor Lieutenant-Commander RCN(R). He served in HMCS York for VC-920 Squadron 1954. (He was released.)
