Biography
He completed B.A. and M.A. degrees in History at the University of Toronto (Trinity). He was a Rhodes Scholar from New Brunswick and went on to study at Oxford (University College) where he earned a first-class B.A. in law (1955) and a B.C.L. (1956). After five years practising law in Saint John, David joined Toronto law firm Borden & Elliot (now Borden Ladner Gervais) in 1962, where he specialized in corporate law until his retirement in 2000. He was instrumental in creating the legal framework and new legislation required to establish the Central Depository for Securities and the paperless securities system in Canada.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (S) (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 31/01/1950). He served in HMCS York for UNTD 1949-1951. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (S) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/05/1952. He served in HMCS Brunswicker. (He was released 1954.)
