Biography
Since his retirement from the navy he has been a mentor at the Naval Bridge Simulator in Victoria.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as an Officer Cadet (ROUTP) 1968. In 1968 he served in HMCS Discovery for ROUTP. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (MARS). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (MARS). (Transferred to Regular Force 1974). He served in HMCS Chaudiere 1974. In 1975 he took specialization training in Communications/ Electronic Warfare. In 1974-1977 he served in HMCS Terra Nova. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (MARS) (With seniority dated 01/01/1978). In 1977 he too Anti-Submarine Warfare Air Control specialization training. In 1977-1978 he served in HMCS Provider. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (MARS). In 1980-1981 he served in HMCS Nipigon. In 1982-1983 he served as Naval Aide-de-Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. In 1984 he completed the the Canadian Forces Command and Staff Course. In 1985-1987 he served in HMCS Yukon. He was appointed as a Commander (MARS). In 1989-1990 he served as the Canadian Naval Attaché at the Canadian Embassy in Moscow, USSR, and was also cross-accredited to Finland and Poland. He served in HMCS Mackenzie (In command) 1990-1993. He served in MARPAC HQ on Operations Staff 1992. He served in HMCS Protecteur (In command) 1998-1999. In 1999 he completed the Advanced Military Studies Course. He was appointed as a Captain (N) (With seniority dated 01/06/1999). In 1999-2002 he served as Assistant Chief of Staff Plans & Operations (N3) at Maritime Forces Pacific Headquarters in Victoria. In 2002 he as an exchange officer at the US Pacific Fleet Headquarters in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as the Maritime Homeland Defense Officer. He returned to Canada in July 2005 to become the Transformation lead for the reorganization of the Canadian Forces on the west coast as part of the new Canada Command and the regional Headquarters for defence operations and support to civil authorities. Captain Harrison transferred to the Reserve Force in April 2006, but continued in the same position. In August 2008 he was appointed Chief of Staff for Maritime Forces Pacific/Joint Task Force (Pacific) Headquarters. In April 2009 he became the Special Advisor to Commander Maritime Forces Pacific for the Canadian Naval Centennial and Asia-Pacific Initiatives. (He was retired October 23, 2010.)
