Biography
He was the son of Lieutenant Arther Harwood RCN.

 

Military Service

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1951. In 1951 he served in HMCS Malahat for UNTD. He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RCN 1952. He served in Royal Roads Military College 1952. He was appointed as a Midshipman RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1953). He served in HMCS Ontario for Sea Training, Lauzon for Sea Training. He served in HMCS Magnificent for Sea Training. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/01/1955). He served in HMCS Niobe for General Education and Warfare Course Royal Naval College Greenwich 1955. He served in the RN Barracks Portsmouth for Sub-Lieutenants Courses 1955. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN 1956. He served in HMCS Fraser as Gunnery Officer 1957. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 16/01/1957). He served in HMCS Fraser for Cadet Training Duties 1958. He served in HMCS Ste Therese as Cadet Training Officer 1959. He served as Commander Fifth Canadian Destroyer Squadron 1978. He served in CFB Toronto for Canadian Forces Staff College as Director of Maritime Studies 1980. He was appointed as a Commodore CF 1983. He served as Commander Canadian Fleet and MARCOM HQ as Chief of Staff (Operations) 1983. (He was retired in 10/08/1987.)
