Biography
He was the son of Hans Francis Hastings 11th Earl of Huntingdon.
 
Military Service
He entered the Royal Navy as a Volunteer in 1824. He was appointed as a Mate RN in 1832. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN in 1833 serving in H.M.S. Excellent for Gunnery Training. He served in H.M.S. Revenge 1834. He served in H.M.S. Rhadamanthus 1837. He was appointed as a Commander RN in 1838. He served in H.M.S. Harlequin in 1841. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 31/01/1845. He served in H.M.S. Cyclops (In command) 1848-1851. He served in H.M.S. Curacao (in command) for Crimean War service 1852-1857. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN in 1863. He served as Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station (Flag in H.M.S. Zealous) 1869. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 10/09/1869). He served as Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station in 1866-1869 (Flag in H.M.S. Zealous). He served as Commander-in-Chief The Nore 1873-1876. (He retired in 1876.)

Anecdotes
