Biography
He was a cook at the time of his recruitment into the navy.
 
Military Service
He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 4th Middlesex Regiment serving in India. He served in a New Zealand Regiment during the South African War. He was appointed as a Chief Petty Officer RNCVR. (He was demobilized April 1918).

Anecdotes
He had Indian, South African and First World War service. After the First World War he operated the Naval Veteran's News Stand (Blind and Disabled News Vendors) at Bay and College Streets in Toronto.
