After graduating from the University of Toronto, Burleigh taught history in Chapleau, Palmerston and Brantford, where he became vice-principal of North Park Collegiate. |

He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman (Officer Candidate UNTD) RCNVR (With seniority dated 10/1943). In 1943 he served in HMCS York for UNTD. (He was demobilized.) |

Bill Clearihue reports (02/11/2014): "He joined the UNTD in October, 1943 and as the obit indicates, went into the RCNVR on active service for at least 1 year. I have no record of that service, but if it was in the Indian Ocean, and in a Canadian ship, it would have been in UGANDA. Returning to U of T post-war, there is no indication that he rejoined the UNTD." |
