His home was in Calgary or Edmonton (where he worked as an accountant) at the time of his recruitment. He took flying training at the Carr Aviation School and when it folded he enrolled in the Curtiss Flying School, Toronto ON 1915, passing the flying tests 09/1915. |

He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 20/09/1915) in Ottawa ON. He sailed on Athenia from Montreal 05/10/1915. He served in #1 Wing, Dunkirk 15/02/1916. He served in #5 Wing. He served in RNAS Coudekerque 15/04/1916. He served in #8 (Naval ) Squadron 25/10/1916 - 05/03/1917. He served in #9 (Naval) Squadron 0503/1917 - 30/06/1917. He served in Dover Aeroplane Station, 17/07/1917. He served in #23 TDS 27/11/1918. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in air fights and bombing raids. On August 22, 1917, he attacked a formation of ten hostile aircraft engaged in a raid on England and brought one of them down into the sea." |
