(He was qualified as a Master Mariner.) He came to North America in 1848 joining a whaler from which he was cast away in the north, not returning to the United States until 1853. He served with the USS Decatur stationed at Seattle WT in 1854. He joined Captain Denny's Volunteers and fought indians. He purchased the schooner Rover until selling her to jooin the Fraser River Goldrush. He served in the Fraser River Lightship as Master. He joined the HBC but left them to purchase the sloop Leonade which he operated until 1867. He ran on steamers as an Alaska Pilot in the Politofsky. He operated several vessels including: Little California, Gussie Telfair, Fidelator, George S. Wright. He was master at one time of the Fraser River Lightship. He retired in Victoria and was living there in 1906. |
