Military Service
He entered the Royal Navy 1831. He was appointed as Mate RN serving in H.M.S. President. He was appointed as Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 24/03/1842). He served in H.M.S. President. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 15/05/1848). He commanded the Division of Boats at Lagos in 1851. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 20/02/1852). He was appointed as a Commodore RN 1865 and appointed as the Senior Officer In Command of HM Ships on the East Indies Station. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 24/05/1867). He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station (Flag in H.M.S. Repulse) 1872. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 09/07/1872). He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief China Station in 1877. He was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station. He was appointed as a Admiral RN (With seniority dated 26/09/1878). (He retired on 09/06/1882.)
