Biography
He was a farmer before his recruitment into the navy. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 1 June 1916 at Camp Borden, Ontario, Canada. On his attestation paper, he wrote that he had been a gunnery instructor in the Royal Navy.

He served in the Royal Navy. (He was demobilized.) He was appointed as a Chief Petty Officer RNCVR. He served in HMCS Niobe. (He ws demobilized.)
