Biography
He was the father of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Geoffrey Phipps Hornby.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Midshipman RN (With seniority dated 19/05/1797). He served in the frigate H.M.S. Latona (on the Newfoundland Station) under Captain John Bligh RN. While serving in this ship he was a witness of the mutiny at the Nore. Following Bligh he served in H.M.S. Romney. He served in H.M.S. Agincourt. He served in H.M.S. Active 1800 and H.M.S. Theseus chiefly on the coast of North America and in the West Indies. He served in H.M.S. Santa Margarita and H.M.S. Leviathan 1804.
