He was the son of Captain Freeman Whitfield Horton. In 1913-1915 he served in CGS Constance as Mate. (He was qualified as a Master Mariner in 1915). After his naval service he established Elaine Steamship Company in Halifax and purchased the Westport VI and the Elaine. He later sold out to Eastern Canadian Steamship Company, Saint John NB. In 1927 he was a co-founder of Guysborough Heat, Light and Power Company. In 1936-1960 he owned Horton & Company Ltd., Halifax NS as Ship Brokers. |

He was appointed as a Mate RNCVR 12/04/1915 (With seniority dated 04/02/1915). In 1915 he served in HMCS Canada as Mate. In 1915 he served in HMCS Sable Island (Coastal patrol steamer) (In command). In 1915 he served in HMCS Hochelaga as Mate. In 1915 he served in HMCS Starling (In command). In 1916 he served in HMCS Premier (In command). In 1916 heserved in HMCS Wilfred C. as Mate. In 1917 he served in HMCS C.D.-81 (In command). He was appointed as a Temporary Skipper RCN (With seniority dated 18/02/1918). In 1918 he served in HMCS Gwennith (tug) (In command). He served in HMCS Niobe as Additional 1918. In 1919 he served in HMCS Lansdowne for Disposal. (He was demobilized 15/04/1919.) |
