He was the son of William and Mary Hughes.He was a carpenter at the time of his recruitment into the navy. |
Military Service |

He enlisted as an Ordinary Seaman in the RNCVR December 1916 at Hamilton ON. In 1917 he served in HMCS Niobe for Training. He served in HMS Vivid (Devonport) for Training. He was appointed as an Able-Seaman RNCVR. (He was demobilized 09/02/1919). |
