He was appointed as a Stoker (1st Class) RNCVR 1917. He served in HMCS Galiano 1918. (He was lost in HMCS Galiano in a storm off Vancouver Island BC October 30, 1918).

Anecdotes
His body was picked up at sea by the whaler Brown and brought to Vancouver BC by the Cheloshin. His body was sent to his family for burial in New Westminster BC.
