Biography

He is the grandson of James Hyndman a former politician and Alberta Supreme Court Justice. After his naval service he was a Lawyer and senior partner in an Edmonton firm. He was elected as a Member of the Alberta Legislature and was appointed as a Provincial Cabinet Minister. He was named the 15th Chancellor of the University of Alberta on June 10, 1994. In 1986 he joined the Board of Directors for TransAlta Utilities. He chaired the Premier's Commission on Future Health Care for Albertans (1987–1989). He chaired the Royal Commission on a National Passenger System for Canada in the 21st Century (1989–1992). He chaired the Canadian Safety and Accident Board Review Commission (1993).

He was appointed as an Officer Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1953. He served in HMCS Nonsuch for UNTD 1953. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R). (He was released.) He was appointed as an Honorary Captain (N) (NR) 1993-1996. He was attached to the 4th Destroyer Squadron 1993-1996. (He was released.)
