Biography
He came to Canada as a child. He received his BA from Queen’s University, Kingston, in 1957, an MA from Queen’s University in 1958 and his first PhD from Princeton University in 1960. He earned a second PhD from the University of London in 1963. He joined Victoria College in 1964 as an Assistant Professor, becoming a full Professor in 1973.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1953. In 1953-1956 he served in HMCS Cataraqui for UNTD. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/07/1956). He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant (With seniority dated 01/07/1958). In 1958 he served in HMCS Cataraqui. (He was released 1959.)

Anecdotes
Professor Jackson specialized in the study of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and wrote and edited several books and authored numerous articles. He also served on many committees and task forces at Victoria College throughout his career. He was the recipient of several awards, among them a Canada Council Senior Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Killam Research Scholarship and he was named a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1985. In 1994, he was named University Professor, the highest honour the university accords its faculty, and retired in 2001. His last work, only recently completed as Professor Emeritus, was a database known as the Jackson Bibliography of Romantic Poetry.
