He was living in Ottawa ON at the time of his recruitment into the navy.

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1959. He served in HMCS Carleton for UNTD 1959. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He served in HMCS Cornwallis as a UNTD term Lieutenant 1965. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 24/09/1964). (He was released.)
