Biography
He attended the University of Toronto. He graduated in the Spring of 1944. received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from the University of Toronto in 1944 and qualified as a Professional Engineer in Ontario in 1946. After his naval service he qualified as a lawyer and became a partner in the firm of Dennison Associates and MacBeth & Johnson. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1954 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1967. Doug was registered as a patent attorney in Canada in 1948 and a patent agent in the United States in 1949.

He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman (Officer Candidate UNTD) 1943. He served in HMCS York for UNTD 1943, (CFR). He was appointed as a Electrical Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/05/1944). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (L) (R) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/05/1944). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (L) (R) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/05/1945). (He was demobilized 1945.)

Bill Clearihue reports "In his write-up, mention is made of his being at MIT in 1943. There's no detail to be found but similar stories emerged from wartime UBC for instance, where UNTDs were sent to California to work with the USN on Radar."
