Biography
After his War service, George attended the university of Winnipeg and Manitoba, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950, and a Diploma in Education in 1951. He then pursued a career in teaching, spanning 31 years, 30 of those years were spent at the Lakehead District School Board. In 1986, he retired after spending many years as the Head of the History Department at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RCNVR (With seniority dated 19/07/1943). (He was demobilized 20/08/1946.) He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1948. In 1948 he served in HMCS Chippawa for UNTD. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 06/02/1950). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 06/12/1951). In 1951 he served in HMCS Chippewa. Between 1951 and 1954, he served two extended periods of active duty, totalling some 28 months, on the West Coast, Great Lakes and East Coast. He was appointed as Lieutenant-Commander RCN(R). He served in HMCS Griffon. (He was released.) (He was qualified with a Watch Keeping certificate.)

In June, 2013 he rec'd the NOAC/NAC Golden Medallion Award, at the AGM in Victoria.
