Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet Royal Navy in 1915 and was trained at Royal Naval College Osborne and Royal Naval College Dartmouth. He was appointed as a Midshipman RN 1919. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN 1922. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN 1924. He served in #3 Squadron RAF 1926. He served in H.M.S. Columbine. He served in H.M.S. Eagle for 402 Squadron 1927. He served in HM Submarine M-2 1929. He served in HMS Centaur 1930. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RN 1932. He served in HMS Glorious for 802 Squadron 1932. He served in R.N. Staff College Greenwich 1934. He served in SOO to R.A. Destroyers 1935. He served in HMS London 1937. He was appointed as a Commander RN 1938. He served in RNAS lLee-on-Solent 1939. He served in HMS Eagle 1940-41. (As the Commander Flying in H.M.S. Eagle he shot down five enemy aircraft in 1940. In 1941 he led eight Swordfish in an attack which resulted in the destruction of five Italian destroyers off of the coast of East Africa.) He served as Naval Assistant (Air) to the 2nd Sea Lord 1941-44. He was appointed as a Captain (P) RN (With seniority dated 31/12/1943). He served in RNAS Yeovilton 1944-45. He served in HMS Sultan (Singapore) as Commanding Officer 1945-47. He served in HMS Troubridge and 3rd Destroyer Flotilla Meditrranean 1947-49. He served as Director Captain Senior Officer's War Course RN 1949-51. He was appointed as a Commodore 2nd Class (P) RN. (On Loan to RCN from RN). He served in NHQ as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air) and Chief of Naval Aviation 1951-53. (He was retired in 1953.)
