He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN. He was appointed as a Captain RN. He was appointed as a Commodore RN (He carried his pendant in HMS Worcester). Along with Captain Edward Falkingham RN (in HMS Gibraltar) he was charged with enforcing the Treaty of Utrecht on the Newfoundland fishing grounds in 1715.)
