Biography
He was the son of the 2nd Earl of Albemarle. He died, unmarried when the viscountcy became extinct.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 11/12/1744). He was appointed as a Commodore RN and as Commander-in-Chief of HM Ships and Vessels in North America 1755 (Pendant in H.M.S. Centurion). He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the Blue RN (With seniority dated 21/10/1762). He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the Red RN (With seniority dated 18/10/1770). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the Blue RN (With seniority dated 24/10/1770). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 31/03/1775). He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral of the Red RN (With seniority dated 05/02/1776). He was appointed as a Admiral of the Blue RN (With seniority dated 29/01/1778). He was appointed as a Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 08/04/1782). He was appointed as the First Lord of the Admiralty. He was created Viscount Keppel of Elvedon (County Suffolk) for his naval services in 1782. He was First Lord of the Admiralty (with a slight intermission) 1782-84.
