| He entered the Royal Navy in 1833. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN in 1842. He was appointed as a Commander RN in 1845. He was appointed as a Captain RN. He commanded a Battalion of Naval Brigade at Capture of Canton 1857. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN 1866. He served as Director Department of Naval Ordnance 1866-69. He served as Superintendent Plymouth Dockyard 1869. He was appointed as Superintendent Malta Dockyard and Second-in-Command Mediterranean Station. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN 1873. He was appointed as President Royal Naval College 1873. He served as Commander-in-Chief North America and West Indies Station (Flag in H.M.S. Bellerophon) 1876. He was appointed as an Admiral RN (With seniority dated 21/03/1878). He was appointed as the First Naval Lord of the Admiralty 1879. (He was retired.) |
