Anecdotes
Bill Clearihue reports: "This was at a time when all able-bodied students, male and female, were required to be enrolled in some program relating to the war effort. For males this took the form of the COTC, UNTD or UAS (forerunner of URTP). The COTC was the default program. Anyone failing to meet the higher standards of the UNTD/UAS, were required to enroll in the COTC. In the middle of that academic year at UofT, the RCAF shut down the UAS, but the requirement to serve still remained and so those cadets would have been dispersed into the COTC or UNTD. Although then starting his 3rd year, he would have been at best only a 2nd year UNTD. At that time he would have been attested into the RCNVR as a Stoker 2nd Class. There is no indication of any post-University Naval service."
