Bill Clearihue wrote "He was an award winning entertainer/producer (Don Messer/Singalong Jubilee) in his own right but is inexorably linked to Anne Murray. He discovered her, managed her career, married her, and divorced her. He tended to remain out of the spotlight and in later years moved back to New Brunswick. He was the Host and Producer - Singalong Jubilee - CBC."

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 02/01/1951). He served in HMCS Scotian for UNTD (Mt. A.) 1950-1953. He served in HMCS Stadacona for Training 1949. In 1952 he served as a Cadet Captain (UNTD) in HMCS Swansea for Sea Training. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/09/1953). In 1953 he served in HMCS Scotian. (He was released.)
