Military Service
He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RNCVR (With seniority dated 31/02/1915). He served in HMCS Niobe (For special Services at Halifax) 1915. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RNCVR (With seniority dated 01/04/1917). He served in HMCS Hochelaga (In command ) 1918.

Anecdotes
He was court martialled on 05/10/1918 which found that "on sighting a ship of the enemy (the German U-156) he did not use his utmost endeavour to bring his ship into action." As a result he was dismissed from the Navy.
