Biography
He came to Victoria BC from the UK about 1912. He was a book keeper at the time of his recruitment into the navy. He was the elder brother of Henry C. Lifton. After WWI, in 1920 Lifton sr is a shipwright at Harbour Marine Co. in Vic West. In 1921 he was based near the Oak Bay Boathouse.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Petty Officer RNCVR. (CFR) He was appointed as an Assistant Paymaster RNCVR (With seniority dated 01/09/1916). He served in HMCS Rainbow (For Miscellaneous and Special Service at Esquimalt) 1917-1918. (He was demobilized.) (Transferred to the RCNVR). (He was mobilized for World War Two service). He was appointed as a A/Paymaster Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 03/09/1939) (later backdated to 1938). He served on Staff of Commanding Officer Pacific Coast for Intelligence Duties 1939. He was appointed as a Paymaster Lieutenant RCNVR (With seniority dated 03/09/1939). (He was demobilized.)

Jill Singleton (Email to Nauticapedia 29/01/2017) that "Trained as a bookkeeper before arriving in Victoria from the UK c1912. Prior to WWI was Receiver at B.Wilson Cold Storage in Victoria BC. Served WWI - “Lieutenant at naval yard, Esquimalt.” Marries Edna Grant in Victoria on June 5, 1918. Returns to bookkeeper work. 1923-1939 Receiver/Clerk with Spencer Stores, Government St., Victoria. Between 1934-1939 he was warden at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Cedar Hill X Road, Victoria, BC. Returns to "Active Service" in WWII at Esquimalt. Returns to Spencers after the war. By the late 1950s is Receiver at Eatons, Victoria. At age 84, he and Edna were still residing at their Gordon Head home of over fifty years"
