Biography
He was a noted athlete - particularly in hockey. He was offered a contract to play with the Montreal Maroons in the National Hockey League. He declined the offer so that he could accept a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford. He was a teacher at Upper Canada College. He was elected as Trustee 1953 and as Chairman of the Maritime Museum of British Columbia 1956. He was a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Maritime Museum of Canada (Halifax). He was a winner of the Admiral's Medal for 1991 for his work in establishing the University Naval Training Division.

He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant-Commander (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/07/1942). He served in NHQ as Director Naval Intelligence 1942. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/07/1942). He served in NSHQ as Director Naval Intelligence and as Director of Naval Information 1943, (Transferred to Special Branch RCNVR) 1944. He was appointed as a A/Commander (SB) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/01/1944). He served in NHQ as Director Naval Intelligence 1944. He was appointed as a Commander (SB) (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 01/01/1945). (On Loan to RN) 1945. He served in Hong Kong as Staff Officer Intelligence and (I) Member of Military Government 1945). (He was qualified as an interpreter of German, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish.) (He was the winner of the Barry German Naval History Prize for 1957 and 1958.) (He retired 11/12/1958.)
