He took flying training at the Curtiss Flying School in Toronto ON in 1916 and was awarded Royal Aero Club Certificate 3390 dated 09/08/1916. |

He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant (With seniority dated 07/11/1916; in UK with RNAS, 3 December 1916; trained at Vendome, Westgate and Manston. He became unfit (ulcers) and appointment terminated 16/01/1918. |
