He was appointed as a Surgeon Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 10/03/1949). He served in HMCS Scotian for UNTD 1948-1951. He was appointed as an A/Surgeon Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/05/1951). (He was released.)
