Biography
He was qualified as teacher. At the age of 29 he was elected Member of Parliament for Cape Breton South under the NDP banner, being the first ever elected MP for the New Democratic Party.

 

Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 02/01/1951). He served in HMCS Scotian for UNTD 1950-1951. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/09/1953). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (with seniority dated 01/09/1955). (He was released.)
