Biography
During twelve years with the Canadian foreign service, MacLaren's postings included Hanoi, Saigon, Prague and the United Nations in New York and Geneva. He has also served on the Canadian and British Board of Directors of Deutsche Bank plus a number of other multi-national corporations. He was elected as as the Liberal MP for Etobicoke North. He was appointed as as Minister of National Revenue. He was appointed Minister of International Trade 1993. He was appointed High Commissioner for Canada in the United Kingdom 1996-2000.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) 1952. He served in HMCS Discovery for UNTD 1952-1955. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/09/1955). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He served in HMCS Discovery. He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant RCN(R). He served in HMCS Carleton. (He was released.) He was appointed as the Honorary Colonel of the 7th Toronto Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery. (He was released.)
