He was President of Duart Hardwoods, Fall River NS. He was a Minister in the Presbyterian Church of Canada and Past-Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in the Atlantic Provinces.

He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 1952). He served in HMCS Brunswicker for UNTD 1952-1956. He served in HMCS Stadacona 1953. He served in HMCS La Hulloise 1953. He served in HMCS Naden 1954. He served in HMCS New Glasgow 1954. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RCN(R). (He was released 1988.)
