Ganges. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 30/04/1827). While in command of H.M.S. Sparrowhawk 1832-33, he brought home a treasure ship containing valuable cargo and bales of cochineal. He served in H.M.S. Tweed. He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 10/01/1837). He served in H.M.S. Wellesley (In command) 1838, he saw action off the coast of Malabar quelling an insurrection. Again in 1839 he engaged in operations on the coast of Scinde and in the Persian Gulf and on the coast of China at the capture of Canton. He was present at the actions at the Bogue Forts, Amoy and Chinghae. He served in H.M.S. America (In command) 1846. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral of the White RN (With seniority dated 18/06/1857). He was appointed Commander-in-Chief HM Ships and Vessels on the Pacific Station (Flag in H.M.S. Bacchante) 1860 he arrived at Esquimalt 02/04/1861. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 30/11/1863). He was appointed as a Admiral RN (With seniority dated 08/04/1868).
