He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 26/08/1732). He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 12/09/1743) He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 17/07/1747). He was appointed as the Senior Officer of HM Ships and Vessels in North America (Pendant carried in H.M.S. Nottingham) in 1756.
