He served in RAF Grantham for #3 Flying Training School 1937. He served in RAF Wittering 1937. He served in RAF Catterick for #41 Fighter Squadron 1937. (Transferred to the Fleet Air Arm 01/08/1938). He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (A) RN (With seniority dated 12/10/1937). He served in H.M.S. Glorious for 802 RN Squadron 1937. He served in H.M.S. Furious 1939. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (A) RN 12/06/1939). He served in RNAS Hinstock for 758 RN Squadron 1939. He served in H.M.S. Ark Royal for 801 RN Squadron 1940, (He shot down He-111 1940).
