Biography
He was the son of Commander Eustace Downman Maude RN. He owned a 30' vessel, the Audrey, which he used for towing and carrying passengers. After his naval service he served in merchant service on BC Coast as Master of the ferry Cy Peck for the Gulf Island Ferry Company (this was his first 'steady' job 1930. He was paid $200 per month and got every Wednesday off. He ran the Fulford Harboour to Swartz Bay route. In 1950 Gulf Islands Ferry Co. (1950) Ltd. Was formed with shareholders: Gavin Mouatt (President), George Maude (Vice-President), and Colonel Desmond Crofton and Joseph Lautman as shareholders. In 1961 they were bought out by Premier W.A.C. Bennett as part of his foundation of BC Ferries Ltd. Mouatt was ill at the time and George Maude was kept on as Personnel Manager until he was 80.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RNCVR (With seniority dated 15/07/1915). He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant RNCVR (With seniority dated 09/01/1917). He served in RCN Barracks Halifax. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RNCVR (With seniority dated 09/01/1917). He served in HMCS Grilse. In 1917 he served in HMCS Nione as Additional for Duty with Captain of Patrols. (He was demobilized.)
