Biography
He was the President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada 1986-1990. He was the President of Memorial University (Newfoundland) 1990-1999. He was the first Chairman of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO), the first Canadian Commissioner of the Canada/US Pacific Salmon Commission, and the Canadian representative on the NATO Science Committee.

 

Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 1954). He served in HMCS Cabot for UNTD 1954-1955. He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/05/1958). (He was released.)
