In 1948 he was one of 8 Sea Cadets awarded Navy League Scholarships to attend HMCS Royal Roads (Royal Canadian Naval College). He completed his 2 years there and in 1951 transferred to McGill University in Montreal QC. He was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) (With seniority dated 29/04/1950). He served in HMCS Donnacona for UNTD 1951-1953. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN(R). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/09/1954). In 1954 he served in HMCS Tecumseh. (He was released late 1950s.) |

Bill Clearihue reports that "In his 2nd summer at RR, which was 1950, was the first time that Royal Roads & UNTD trained together and he might well have received his U-number that summer, prior to joining the UNTD at DONNACONA in the Fall of '50. An interesting anomaly - a UNTD who already had his U-number before joining!" In the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, he served as an official for the jumping event. |
