Biography
He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor of science degree in 1951 and in 1953 received a medical degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Following graduation he served as a general practitioner in Saskatoon. He was on the active staff of University Hospital and on the courtesy staff of Saskatoon City and St. Paul's hospitals. Dr. McCorkell was a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and was active on the board of examiners of the Medical Council of Canada. He was past secretary of the Saskatoon District Medical Society. At the time of his death he was assistant professor of the general practice department at the University of Saskatchewan.

Military Service
He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1935 and during World War Two he saw active service in the North Atlantic. (He was demobilized.) He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCN(R) (With seniority dated 10/08/1943) (Later backdated to 1942). In 1944 he served in HMCS Atholl. (He was demobilized.) He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RCN(R) (With seniority dated 10/08/1950). He was appointed as a Surgeon Commander RCN(R) ((With seniority dated 01/01/1962). He served in HMCS Unicorn as Commanding Officer UNTD 1962-64. He was appointed as a Surgeon Captain (NR). He served in HMCS Unicorn as Commanding Officer 1968-1971. (He was released 1971.) (He was qualified with a Watchkeeping Certificate.)
