He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman (Officer Candidate UNTD) RCNVR. He was appointed as an Able-Seaman (Officer Candidate UNTD) RCNVR. In 1943 he served in HMCS Cornwallis for Training. (He was demobilized.)
