Biography
He married Elizabeth Henrietta Kennedy 17/06/1867. He was Earl Clanwilliam in the Peerage of Ireland and Baron Clanwilliam of County Tipperary in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Naval Cadet RN (With seniority dated 17/11/1845). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 29/11/1851). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN (With seniority dated 15/09/1852). He served in H.M.S. Imperieuse 1854. He was appointed as a Lieutenant in HMS Imperieuse blockading the Gulf of Finland 1854-5. He was appointed as a Lieutenant in destruction of war vessels at Escape Creek 1857 and Fashan 1857, wounded at the Battle of Canton 1857 in the China War. He was appointed as a Commander RN (With seniority dated 26/02/1858). He was appointed as a Captain RN (With seniority dated 22/07/1859). He was appointed as an ADC to HM the Queen 1872-76. He was appointed as a Rear-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 31/12/1876).He served on the Committee on Indian Troopship Service 1879. He was appointed as a Vice-Admiral RN (With seniority dated 26/07/1881). He served as Commander-in-Chief Flying Squadron 1880-82. He served as Commander-in-Chief North America and West Indies Station (Flag in H.M.S. Northampton and H.M.S. Bellerophon) 1885. He was appointed as a Admiral RN (With seniority dated 22/06/1886). He was appointed as an Admiral of the Fleet (Retired) RN 1895. He was appointed as a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty 1874-80.
