He entered the Royal Navy in 1703. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RN. He served in the Baltic and Mediterranean seas. He served in HMS Poole, HMS York and HMS Leopard. In 1739, he was appointed Governor of Newfoundland and served for two seasons. In 1744, he was promoted to Rear-Admiral of the White, in 1745 he was promote to Vice-Admiral RN and appointed as Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean. In 07/1747, he was promoted to Vice-Admiral of the Red but died, likely in ignorance of the advancement, on 05/08/1747 in HMS Russell at Valdo Newfoundland. |
