Biography
He was raised in the wilds of the North West Territories at Great Bear Lake and Fort Simpson. As a young man in Ottawa, Ontario, he attended Glebe Collegiate and later, Queen's University where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering, Science class of 1949. After his naval service he was the Head of the Project Engineering Section of Environment Canada in 1978. (Retired again on 28/04/1990.)
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Sea Cadet at Ottawa ON in 1940. He was appointed as a Gunner RCA 1940. 33 (Reserve) Field Regiment (2nd Field Battery) RCA 1940. He was appointed as a Bombardier RCA. (He was discharged 22/01/1944) (Transferred to RCAF 09/10/1943). Toronto Manning Depot 28/04/1944. He served in RCAF Sydney for #8 Construction and Maintenance Unit 1944, Leading Aircraftsman, Demobilized 29/11/1944, (Transferred to RNVR 01/12/1944). He was appointed as a Naval Airman 2/c (Pilot Candidate) RNVR 01/12/1944. He served in H.M.S. Seaborne 1944. He served in RNAS Lee-on-Solent 1944. He served in H.M.S. St. Vincent for #78 Pilot Training Course 1945. He was promoted to A/Leading Airman RNVR 11/02/1946. (He was demobilized 1946) Afterwards he attended Queen's University for Engineering. (Transferred to RCN). He was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (E) RCN (With seniority dated 01/06/1949). He served in HMCS Bytown as Additional for Courses at Queen's University 1949. He served in HMCS Stadacona for Officers Divisional Course 1949. He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (E) RCN (With seniority dated 01/06/1949). He served in HMCS Stadacona for Mechanical Training Establishment 1949, RN Engineering College Keyham for Marine Engineering Conversion course 1949, John Brown's Shipyard for Accelaerated Apprenticeship Training. He served in H.M.S. Jamaica for training, Qualified with Certificate of Competency as Junior Engineer Officer 1951. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (E) RCN (With seniority dated 01/12/1948), RNEC Manadon for Aero-Engineering Conversion Course 1951. He served in RCAF Centralia for Flying Training 1951. He was Awarded Wings and won the Siddley Trophy 01/07/1952. He served in RNAS Lossiemouth for #1 OFS in 766 RN Squadron 1952. He served in RNAS Eglinton for 737 RN Squadron for #2 OFS 1952. He served in H.M.S. Triumph for Deck Landing Qualification 1952. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (E) (A/E) (P) RCN. He served in HMCS Shearwater for 880 Squadron (31st Support Air Group) 1953. He served in HMCS Shearwater and HMCS Magnificent for VS-881 Squadron 1953. He served in HMCS Shearwater as Station Test Pilot 1954. He served in HMCS Shearwater for Air Engineering Duties and as Station Maintenance Test Pilot 1954. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (E) (A/E) (P) RCN (With seniority dated 01/12/1956). He served in HMCS Shearwater for VX-10 Squadron as Air Engineer Officer and as Project Pilot 1957. He served in HMCS Bonaventure as Marine Engineering Watchkeeper 1958. He served in HMCS Algonquin as Engineer Officer and on Staff of Commander First Canadian Escort Squadron as Squadron Engineering Officer 1959. He served at NDHQ on Staff of Director of Aircraft Maintenance 1960. He served at NDHQ on Staff of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff as Special Weapons Coordinator 1962. He served at NDHQ on Staff of Project Manager Hydrofoil Project as Project Engineer (Hull and Machinery) 1964. He was appointed as a Commander RCN (With seniority dated 01/01/1965) He served on the Staff of Commander Third Canadian Escort Squadron as Squadron Technical Officer and Squadron Diving Officer 1967. He served at CFB Shearwater for VX-10 Squadron as Commanding Officer 1968. He served at NDHQ on Staff of Directorate of Equipment Requirements (Maritime Air) as Section Head (Naval Aircraft) 1970. He served at the US Armed Forces Staff College Norfolk VA 1970. He was appointed as a Colonel (PLT). He served at NDHQ as Acting Director Maritime Air 1972. He served in NDHQ as Acting Director General Maritime Warfare 1972. He served on the Senior Maritime Warfare Course 1972. He served at NDHQ as Assistant Director General Marine Engineering and Maintenance 1974. He was seconded to the Department of Environment as the Deputy Manager of the National Environmental Emergencies Centre in 1975. (He resigned on 06/03/1978.) (Qualified as a pilot for naval aviation and for aero-engineering duties)
