(He was qualified as a Master Mariner.) He arrived in Victoria while in charge of the bark Estells with a cargo of water pipe. She was damaged in gale while entering Esquimalt Harbour and when making repairs he married Henrietta Moore. After completing his voyage he began steam boating with his father-in-law. He then was commanding the Grappler. He later entered the service of the Canadian Pacific Navigation Co. He was the Master of the Sardonyx (1888). He was the Master of the the Western Slope, Danube, the Maude (1891) and the Princess Louise. In 1890 he was appointed as a Marine pilot licenced for northern waters of British Colmbia. |
