Military Service
He was appointed as a Boy Seaman RNCVR 08/1917. He served in HMCS Niobe for Stoker duties 1917. In 1917 he served in HMCS Shearwater. In 1917 he served in HMS Cesar (at Bermuda for training).

Anecdotes
He changed his name to John Henry Henderson (born 01/09/1899) in order to enlist under-age into the RNCVR. He died in Bermuda of heart disease.
